About Winnipeg South Sikh Centre

Rooted in faith, Seva, and community, Winnipeg South Sikh Centre has grown alongside the Sangat—from humble beginnings on Dovercourt Drive to our present home on Sikh Centre Way.

Our Journey

From Dovercourt Drive to Sikh Centre Way

Winnipeg South Sikh Centre began with a smaller Gurudwara property on Dovercourt Drive. With approximately half an acre of land, the location served the growing Sangat but gradually became too limited for the needs of the community.

As participation increased and community activities expanded, a larger home was needed—one that could better support worship, Langar, education, gatherings, parking, and future generations.

In 2020, Winnipeg South Sikh Centre moved to its present home at 1248 Sikh Centre Way. Situated on more than eight acres in south Winnipeg, the expanded property provides space for worship, learning, Seva, community programs, and continued growth.

Heritage & Faith

A Brief Introduction to Sikhi

Sikhi traces its beginnings to the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who was born in 1469. His teachings emphasized devotion to One Creator, truthful living, equality, compassion, honest work, sharing with others, and service to humanity.

His spiritual mission was continued by nine successive Sikh Gurus. Through their teachings and leadership, the Sikh tradition developed institutions and practices centred around Gurbani, Sangat, Seva, and Langar. Guru Gobind Singh Ji later conferred Guruship upon Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which remains the eternal Guru of the Sikhs.
